Reginald Magazine Launch Party

Lovers,

Last night I attended the launch party for Reginald Magazine hosted by Bitter End Martini Bar!
Check out the pics from the event!

Love,
Mo

p.s. yes my hair is a little different..lol..I'm still on the fence a little.. I LOVE it in well lit places and hate that it doesn't show well in dark places :/  I will give it a week or so to see if I absolutely love it! Though I must say I'm glad I finally did this. I have always wanted to try an out of my comfort zone color! I love that I'm not afraid to have a #fail, life is too short to not try out some things!

Event: MAKENEW shop opening

A few days ago my friend Tosan and I attended the grand opening of MAKENEW, a quaint curated thrift shop owned by my friend Anna.
Nestled right on vintage row on Queen Street, MAKENEW is a collection of great pieces of clothing gathered by Anna. Here are some pics from the opening + what I wore.  Be sure to check it out!

Love,
Mo

p.s. everything I'm wearing is thrifted :)

Event: MISE-AU-GREEN Grand Opening

A few weeks ago I got an invite to the grand opening of MISE-AU-GREEN on Spring Garden Road.
The store specializes in menswear particularly classic dress shirts, polos and Aigle rubber boots.
Thanx to the crew at MISE-AU-GREEN for inviting me to their grand opening.   I enjoyed chit chatting with some of my media friends at the event as we enjoyed yummy hors d'ouevres and getting to know more about the store and its owners.  The store looks great, the brand is clear and the product is very well made.
All the best to the MAG crew :)

What to wear to dinner with Pooch?

Hello Lover,

YES, I am talking about Pooch Hall aka Derwin Davis from BET's The Game.
Never thought I'd be asking myself the question of what I would wear to dinner with Pooch.
For some reason the first thing that came to mind was polka dots and that is what I wore.
Pooch was in the city to host a party spearheaded by Legacy Entertainment to raise funds for Barry House, which provides emergency shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness.
Before the party, a couple of us went to dinner at Moda, a very chic restaurant in the city.  Pooch walked into the restaurant all Derwinesque.
We shook hands. I said, "Hi, my name is Mo". He said, "Nice to meet you Mo, my name is Pooch" . We hugged then he proceeded to effortlessly introduce himself to everyone else.  He took his seat next to me and ordered the halibut and requested more greens on his plate as he prepares for a shoot for a men's health magazine which I will be keeping an eye out for.  There were 10 of us who ate, talked and laughed as stories were shared around the table. His stories were attention grabbing, he was funny and most charmingly remembered everyone's name and made everyone a part of his tales.  Not only was he goofy, he was such a gentleman and also showed depth.  I remember him sharing about his own desires of stepping out of his comfort zone and challenging himself to be a versatile actor.  I look forward to seeing him in his next project Showtime's Ray Donovan.  Later on in the evening Pooch Hosted the party and boy! it was one heck of night with all proceeds going to Barry House.
This is my second year being a part of this amazing cause and I look forward to supporting it in any way I can in the future. The empowerment of girls and women that I come into contact with is something that I hold dear to my heart!

check Pooch taking a pic of us :)

Mo

After Dark

Hello Lover,

Just when I thought I couldn't do anything else this past weekend, Saturday night brought about a black and white party to launch the Jay Wells Face Up Initiative: a charity to help raise money for people living with HIV.
Though I only briefly chatted with Jay, he was such a fun host and above all working hard to provide a  great service to our community.
It was kinda tough to find a black and white outfit in my closet. Honestly, it kinda stressed me out..lol..
anyways, I snapped a few pics of my friends and I, also my mod glasses got around and it ended up being a thing to take pics of my loves in them.
enjoy!

Love,
Mo

p.s. last pic... totally an awesome moment for me. That's me and David one of the actors in La Cage aux Folles currently running at Neptune Theatre.  I was an INSTANT fan when I saw him in the play and have seen him a few times around the city but wasn't close enough to stalk him and introduce myself.  Thanx to my friend, the gorgeous William for introducing me!

Mercedes Benz Start Up - Halifax

Hello Lover,

A year ago at fashion week in Toronto I was introduced to the Mercedes Benz Start Up - "A national program to nurture Canada's next generation of fashion designers".  I got to see designers Martin Lim win last year and was excited to hear that they were adding Halifax as one of the cities they would choose finalists from.
A few weeks ago I got an invite to attend the runway show for the 4 semi-finalists they had chosen where one designer would be selected to be on the runway in Toronto.
On Friday I took my handsome brother and 4 of my closest friends with me to the event and we mingled with Halifax's fashion lovers and familiar faces from Toronto.
The winner of the night was Dreamboat Lucy and these two gorgeous ladies deserved it!
Be prepared for an overload of pics.

Love,
Mo

Sheer Heaven

The Affair: African Nova Scotia Music Awards, February 18th 2012
The Deets: I got invited to an awards show as a guest of the Black Business Initiative. I took my brother and my friend Tosan with me. The show had the feeling of a down home family gathering. We sang, danced and laughed the night away.

Happy New Year!!!

Hey Lover,

I hope you had an awesome New Year's Eve and rang in 2012 with class.
I went to a wine and cheese shindig and had loads of fun. There was wine to be had and little pre new year epiphanies to help us cross over to the new year.
I'm looking forward to this year and can't wait to see what it has in store for me.

Wishing you your heart's desires in the new year!
Love,
Mo

Event Geekery: 99 Days In

Hey Lover,

Yesterday I got the chance to go to a runway show featuring designs from fashion students from
the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (NSCAD).
Each designer showed about 3 to 4 pieces.  The collections ranged from 50's inspired garb to a punk'd up Victorian era.
My favorite was Jennie Bijou who drew inspiration from the four elements: Earth, Wind, Fire and Water.
In her words, " I wanted to infuse the emotions, colours and textures that the elements evoke in myself.  All of the fabric was hand dyed with natural dyes as to respect the elements that surround me everyday. I want the wearer to feel the same joy and life while wearing the dress that I felt while making it, and to create strong silhouettes that make them feel as powerful and forceful as the elements they are representing."

check out a few of the pictures I snapped at the event and also a video of my fave designer of the night.

Love,
Mo

Celebratory Drinks

Hey Lover,

After such an AMAZING event on Friday, my friend Shariena and I were still on the high from that night AND to top it off , she had just finished make-up school. So we decided to go grab a few drinks and have dessert at one of my favorite spots. It was a much needed chill time because we got to chat about future events, collaborating projects and working even harder than we did this year. The time of reflection was truly needed.
Check the few pics we took.

Love,
Mo
p.s. click on her name to check her make-up blog :)
