That thing they call Gratitude.
I find myself being very reflective today, well, it's been ongoing really for the last couple of days. I've been extremely exhausted but the constant swirl of thoughts has proven stronger than the necessity of sleep. I remember when this year started I said to myself that I wouldn't make a mental list of resolutions that I wanted to achieve, instead I would live by one principle - TO GIVE FAITH A FIGHTING CHANCE.
I remember telling my mom, last year, how I felt like I needed to take a long trip somewhere by myself. At the time I just felt like I really needed it, just to unwind. Another thought I had was hoping that in 2012 I would be able to attend a fashion week event. My sights weren't to be there as a designer doing a show, but as a designer in the crowd and I couldn't see this being possible in 2011 just with some of the personal obstacles in my life.
Now back to the swirling thoughts of the last couple of days. I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude. This year I get to take a long trip. I've always wanted to take a train and go on a long trip. I'm over the moon that I get to do this as I make my way to Toronto. A whole 20-something hour long train ride, filled with the possibility of meeting people, sight seeing, journal writing and opening myself to the universe. To add a cherry on a cake that already has a big cherry on it (though I hate cherries..lol) I'm attending fashion week. A month ago I told you guys of how a designer had asked me to be the accessories to her runway show. Unfortunately, that designer is no longer going to fashion week this April, so that means my clutches will no longer be on the runway. At first I was gutted, however I shifted my thinking. I decided to look at it this way. I don't think I'd have had the guts and means to go to Toronto all by myself, but when the designer approached me, that gave me the push I needed to see that this dream of mine wasn't that far from my reach. I still couldn't afford it but my path has been blessed with some beyond AMAZING people that see something and believe in me and have helped make this possible. I have faith in great things happening in my life and this I count as a great thing.
So in 2 days, I take this trip. I promise myself to be open to the universe and every possibility that it throws my way. I promise myself to have a constant attitude of gratitude, to be humble and to absorb as much as I can from those around me.
positivity. gratitude. love. blessings. friendship. humility. and above all faith.

Africa Night 2011
Two universities joined together to bring Africa Night 2011, a showcasing of African culture done by the students. I was asked to do a runway show and was excited to showcase some of the clutches from my Spring/Summer 2011 line. I decided on the name "House of Wax" primarily because I went with African wax prints for this collection. Enjoy this BIG post on the events of the night. Grouped in 3 categories.
What I wore - no explanation here
Model Behavior - me and my models getting ready
The Fashion - People that I came across after the event.

Hair Chronicles and a quick hello
Hello Lovers.
Sorry for the lack of posts. I am sooo swamped right now. I have a mini-runway show this Saturday and then the week after that I'm off to Toronto for Fashion Week. Soooo much to do but I must say I have an above normal excitement level. HA!
You are all in my thoughts.
love and blessings.
By the way dashed out for a quick sanity restoring meet-up with my amigo and this is how I did my hair.
sidenote: I need to get a tripod because if my brother is asleep or not home I don't have anyone to take pictures of my outfits..LOL...rather lame I know..lol

RE: Motion to Reinstate the Fanny Pack
Dear Fanny Pack Association
I write this letter questioning the lack of sightings of the Fanny Pack on the streets. I would like to know who it is that decided that the fanny pack was no longer in fashion after its stint in the 80s and 90s. I mean if we brought it back now with great prints and vibrant colors we could really do something with it.
Personally, the only con to the Fanny Pack is that it hasn't evolved with the fashion trends, it's been stuck in the folder of cyclists and other outdoorsy activity thrill seekers. How about some of us fashion conscious divas? I mean, yeah, we have seen the version of the fanny pack that lays flat on your hip from the high end brands, but, you and I both know that ain't the REAL fanny pack. It's the bulky one I want back. At this point I would like to list the 5 pros of the Fanny Pack.
1. The ease with which one can access their bus pass while running for the bus. We all have been in that situation sitting on the bus and watching some woman dig through a huge bag for a bus pass. You could practically hear the eye rolls.
2. You favorite jam comes on at the club and you are moved to want to raise your hands or for my Caribbean persuasion who feel the need to smack the walls and buss the lighter. A purse spoils this moment. A fanny pack injects tigerblood into this scenario.
3. A big snow storm strikes, you can barely see where you are going and the winds are crazy. Holding a purse = fighting to keep it on you. Strapped to a fanny pack = secure belongings and free hands to wade off possible snowball attacks.
4. If you are one of those people who have a weird walk that involves the arms doing other weird movements. A handbag messes up your balance. A fanny pack maintains equilibrium and weird walk symmetry.
5. You are walking down the street and someone yanks your purse out of your hands and makes a dash for it. This would never happen with the fanny pack. By the time the thief unclips it off your waist you have already gotten in a few punches and knees to the nether regions to protect your lipgloss, walkman, cassette tapes and whatever it is that you carry.
As I typed my pros for the motion to reinstate the fanny pack I realized that the gorgeous clutches that I make and sell would go obsolete, you know, seeing as though I have such a pull on the higher ups in the Fanny Pack Association. So how about we just go ahead and pretend that this letter never happened and each one of you goes to buy a clutch on my website.
regards

Today I came across...
this FABULOUS pic. I think I blissfully died a little.
This fab Nigerian chica is Chomy, I discovered her while ago on Bella Naija's Style section and I've bumped into her again today while setting up my chictopia account (finally! been procrastinating this for too long) . Her blog is REDONKULOUS... It has brought me to life (no, seriously it has)
